Marketing CiviEvents via CiviMail: how-to or feature request?
February 27, 2012, 04:12:16 am
I'm marketing an event by sending mailings through CiviMail. Looking at the mailing report I can see which contacts have clicked the link in the mailings for the detailed event information and registration pages.

I wanted to cross reference these click-throughs against the registered participant list for the event, so that I could see who had expressed sufficient interest in the event to click a link, but had not gone on to register. This would enable me to send a targeted email to these contacts to encourage them to register.

I couldn't see any way to find these contacts through CiviCRM, so I ended up copying the list of contacts that had clicked the link, and pasting this into a text editor, then manually cross checking this against my participant list, and contact-by-contact adding the non-registered contacts to a new group that i created, enabling me to then send the mail.

Pretty slow and clunky. If anyone can think of a way to do this more effectively, please let me know.

And as a feature request, if the list of contacts shown when clicking on the click-throughs from the mailing report had included the checkboxes and action options shown on a search results page, I could have quickly added all my click-through contacts to a group, then run a search for contacts who were in that group but who were not registered for the event, and then added those to a group.

Thanks
Graham

Graham - Check out this set of improvements sponsored by the NY State Senate and currently in QA for the 4.2 release:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-9542

I think this may provide what you're looking for (or get you closer) once it's in production since you would be able to use Advanced Search to take action based on Mailing filters, and you would also be able to create group(s) and / or export lists from the linked Mailing Reports.

Excellent. Great minds think alike - or is it that fools seldom differ? Whatever, this, sounds exactly like what I need. Thanks Dave.
