Jumping in the game late here, and without reading every word of the thread, but though I should mention that my clients have noticed fewer problems with encoding when they send only a text message OR an HTML message, not both.

We assume this issue is fixed on trunk, and so will be a part of CiviCRM 2.1.

Lobo said "he" would fix this in 2.1 if someone filed an issue. Did anyone following this thread do so? I can't find one and that is why I ask.

The issue is CRM-2959. It’s still open, as we’re looking for a mean to test it with Outlook 2007, but we believe it’s actually fixed on trunk (i.e., will be fixed in CiviCRM 2.1) after commits r13967 and r14014.

Hello,
   Our old friend is back  :( There was a fix for this issue in 2.1 http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-2959, so I waited until we upgraded to 2.1.1 to re-test. Once again, replies from Outlook 2007 to CiviMail/CiviSMTP messages are encoded.
   From CiviMail, I sent 2 messages: one to my verizon Outlook Express client and one to my Outlook 2007 client. I replied from each client to my Outlook 2007 client. The reply from the Outlook Express client came through fine, but the reply from the Outlook 2007 client is encoded.
   Please let me know what, if anything, I can do to get this resolved. I am happy to help in any way I can.

Apologies for the late reply – I tried to (really this time…) fix this on my own, but it does work in my (simple) test environment, so your help would be most appreciated.

Can you once again do the test you did back on February 29th, i.e., send a mailing with replies directed at shot@civicrm.org and then reply to it from both Outlook 2007 and some other client (so I get both a working and a broken version)?

Also, can you (just to be sure) once again describe your setup? Are you using CiviSMTP to manage your return channel, or something else (AMaViS, imap2soap)?

  Thank you for your attention to this issue  :)

I did as you requested and just now replied from 2 different email clients: Outlook 2007 and verizon.net.

As for our setup: We are using CivSMTP. Does that mean that it is, by default, managing our return channel? I honestly don't know but i will try to find out if there is a chance that something else is managing that channel.

Please let me know if you get my emails and if there is anything else I can do to help resolve this.

I didn’t get the replies (yet?), and I did check my spam folder. :|

If you need to re-send, can you please Cc: me on the replies as well, and actually direct the emails to my private server: <shot@durance.shot.pl>? This way I should get two copies of each reply, one that goes through CiviMail and one direct to me, and I can compare differences in pairs of exactly the same message.

So, if you can, please:

1. Create new mailing with reply to shot@durance.shot.pl
2. Send it to yourself in a way that makes you receive it on both Outlook 2007 and some other client
3. Reply from both clients, with Cc: on the replies to shot@durance.shot.pl

I got the direct Cc:s just fine, but the ones that are supposed to go through CiviCRM didn’t make it (again). :(

If I got your earlier comments right, when you set the mailings’ reply-to to yourself, you do receive the replies through CiviCRM (albeit broken if they’re generated by Outlook 2007).

Can you try the above steps with your own account as the reply-to? It does seem like the you → CiviSMTP → CiviCRM → me chain is broken somewhere (while you → me works). :(

(Maybe CiviSMTP didn’t run their cronjobs?)

   I am certain that I did get the replies to myself at least once, because that is what prompted me to post again about this issue. Now though, I am not getting replies to myself, so I guess this explains why you didn't get them either.

   We are looking into what might be broken. If anyone has ideas, a post would be much appreciated.

Ah, good (for certain value of good…). At least it’s not something in between your CiviCRM and me, it’s that the replies are not forwarded at all. Hopefully once it’s fixed I’ll also get the overdue ones.

As for ideas, the problem might be either on CiviSMTP’s side (i.e., the replies do not make the CiviSMTP → CiviCRM route), on CiviCRM’s side (it’s receiving them, but not forwarding), or on the final CiviCRM → CiviSMTP route (unless CiviCRM is supposed to forward them directly to the defined address; I’m not sure whether CiviSMTP is supposed to also handle this part).

Hello again,
   Thanks to Leyla at UAS, we have solved the reply issue. Turned out that someone had changed the soapproxy password. So back now to the original issue of encoded replies.
   I just now replied and cc'd  to "shot@durance.shot.pl" from my Outlook 2007 client and my Outlook express client. I hope you get these messages.

Please let me know what else I can do to help.
