I believe I finally managed to fix this – and, as a bonus, replies that include other stuff (like attachments, or replies with accented characters encoded in anything else that ISO-8859-1) should also work properly.

I currently committed this fix to trunk, so it will be a part of CiviCRM 2.2. We might consider backporting this to 2.1 (in CiviCRM 2.1.3) if that’s critical, but I’d rather not do this.

Note that this fix also requires additional changes on the part of the email processor (imap2soap, CiviSMTP, etc.) before it starts working for everyone. A blog post detailing these changes (for the developers maintaining these solutions) is upcoming later this week.

    As far as I am concerned, there is no need to backport this fix: we can wait for 2.2 at which point, I'll retest and post back the results.

I'm having a similar issue to that described in this thread.  It's not exactly the same, but I'm hoping to find out if the fix described would work for me, too.

I am in the process of a new install, and have been testing functionality.  I am using Thunderbird.  When I reply to a mailing, the forwarded message doesn't display properly.  It doesn't matter if I configure to view in HTML mode, or in text mode, the forwarded message displays the same.  All of the HTML markup is visible, but the message displays as text.  The message text is all there, but it's a bit hard to decipher it through the markup.

Will this be resolved by the same fix, or is it a different issue?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

This is the same issue and should be fixed in CiviCRM 2.2. :)
