Yet another Views 3 Integration Question but maybe a better solution
February 29, 2012, 07:19:35 pm
I am just guessing as to the issue with Views3 integration challenges that I keep seeing and I am suffering from the same. I ran across this post and I wanted to share as it seems someone beat me to the punch with the idea that we keep naming tables explicitly in the settings file and people have custom tables and such.  So without further delay,

http://drupal.org/node/1327804

Seems like a much more graceful approach. Is there a reason that we couldn't do this instead of the listing?

that issue has not been accepted or committed to drupal core. so we cannot use it currently

Thanks Lobo.  I'm just patiently waiting for the next version of the iCal Parser to include imports and I believe you all have 4.2 on the doorstep which should resolve the Views3 template issue for events.

has the template issue been fixed in 4.2? We currently dont have a views maintainer for CiviCRM so if it is not fixed, most likely it will be pushed to the next release and/or when we get a maintainer for 4.3

Hey Lobo,

I don't see that 4.2 has hit the stable or latest release on sourceforge so I can't test this to be sure, if that is what you are indeed asking.  Let me know.

Does 4.2 resolve the Views 3 issue for events?

I'm available to help optimize, but lack time to own Views 3 integration.

Is there a documented fix/workaround for getting Views3 integration to work reasonably well with a configuration involving separate MySQL databases  -- where each MySQL database has a different name and both MySQL databases are hosted at same remote location (not local host)?   I'd greatly appreciate an exemplar $databases array (or set of arrays) for Drupal's settings file that fully addresses this scenario.

I'm currently seeing this error message: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1142 SELECT command denied to user 'username at IP address' for table 'civic_event'

The username referenced in the error above is the user name of the Drupal database, not the CiviCRM database.  It seems that Drupal is not referencing the CiviCRM database, thus not finding the table 'civic_event'

The set of issues still open with views3 integration is here:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?reset=true&jqlQuery=resolution+%3D+Unresolved+AND+assignee+%3D+jalama

if u can take a look and push on a few of them that would be great.

The current set of instructions is here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Views3+Integration

I think the big assumption is that the same DB user has access to both the civicrm and drupal databases

Hi Lobo,

The page with the Views 3 Integration instructions seems to be down.   Not sure the best place to report that but since I linked from here, I thought that I would at least note it here:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Views3+Integration

Yields:

System Error

A system error has occurred — our apologies! ... etc.

Thanks,
-tiffani

CiviCRM and Drupal Views Integration: Configuration Solution

This solution works using Parallels Plesk on a CentOS server, with a configuration that consists of two (2) separate MySQL databases: one MySQL database for Drupal and a second, separate MySQL database for CiviCRM; each MySQL database has a different name and both MySQL databases are hosted at same location (Local MySQL server).

  • Login to your Parallels Plesk application, go to Websites & Domains tab, click on Databases.
  • Click on your separate MySQL database for CiviCRM.
  • Click on Webadmin to launch phpMyAdmin (utilized for database management of MySQL databases).
  • Confirm the particular User name for your CiviCRM database and document that User name.
  • Go back to Parallels Plesk application, go to Websites & Domains tab, click on Databases.
  • Click on the your separate MySQL database for Drupal.
  • Click on Webadmin to launch phpMyAdmin.
  • Using phpMyAdmin, click on the Privileges tab, then click on "Add a new User" and add to your MySQL database for Drupal the User name for your CiviCRM MySQL database (as documented in Step 4 above).  Assign the requisite database-specific privileges to enable the User of your CiviCRM database to talk to your Drupal database.  You can start with a grant of "ALL PRIVILEGES" for the CiviCRM MySQL User, or a more limited grant, at your discretion.  You can thereafter, if necessary, Edit Privileges for the newly added CiviCRM User of your Drupal MySQL database.

@Tiffani Chin - http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC42/Views3+Integration seems to be working just fine.

@NASCAT - Thanks.  It's up for me now too.  Not sure what was going on.
