optOut tokens block Civi (white screen)

Hello, I ran a test bulk emailing using CiviMail a while ago, and all worked well. Now I come to use it again, and find that when I include one of the tokens {action.optOut} or {action.optOutUrl}, which CiviMail requires, the parsing stage (or whatever it is after the Content section) hangs with a blank white browser window. So I'm a bit stumped.

Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? Have I missed somehting obvious? Grateful for any ideas.
