Smart Groups

My customer is running version 3.3.0 on Joomla 1.5.25.  The documentation page for creating smart groups tell me to "From the -more actions- dropdown menu at the top of the list, choose New Smart Group".  However, when I click on the more actions dropdown the only choices are:

Delete contact
add contribution
register for event
add pledge
add membership
add relationship
record activity
add note
send an email
add to group
tag

I tried the add to group option thinking that it might mean"smart groups" but it does not appear to be the way to create smart groups.  What am I missing?

What I have just done on the Joomla demo page is do a search and with the result of that search, choose 'New Smart Group' from the dropdown. I am not sure on what dropdown list you were?

Yes, that is exactly what I did.  I did a search that included the new parameter that I added.  On the results page of the search I selected the drop down menu but "smart groups" is not one of the choices available.

Hmmm that does work on the Joomla demo CiviCRM site. Are you sure there is no local customization? Is upgrading an option for you?
