Joomla on domain for Content and Drupal for CiviCRM on subdomain?
March 07, 2012, 09:29:17 am
Hi,

After our main season of activities are over, I'd like to do one last overhaul of our database and maintain our organization's records on CiviCRM. (we started out with CiviCRM and used three other systems in three years. :o  The best overall is certainly CiviCRM)
However, we are kind of stuck.  We certainly prefer Joomla for content managment and ease of use.  (This opinion is pending checking out Drupal 7).  And we all know CiviCRM reallys runs best in Drupal.

Here is my question.  Is it possible to install Joomla for our content on our main domain (example.org) and then install Drupal for CiviCRM on a subdomain (drupal.example.org)?  Would this sort of set up, if possible, be consistent with best practices?  (We can get matching templates/themes from Rockettheme.com (at least until June 2012), or have one custom designed so the site looks seamless.)

All feed back appreciated.

CiviRocks!

Yes this is possible and others do similar things.

Is it best practice? I don't know. The only drawback is that logins will be different so if a user on your site wants to have a login on both Joomla and Drupal, they will be different.

How easy is it to migrate from Joomla w/CiviCRM to Drupal w/CiviCRM?  Webforms would really come in handy for us and we can't see exactly how we can do it with Joomla.  Also, it's much easy to find a Drupal/CiviCRM developer 'guru' than it is to find one for Joomla/CiviCRM.

Thanks,
CiviRocks!

It's not too hard. You can follow the instructions here
