Regular donations - ongoing, but cancellable?

How would I record that a contact is making regular donations - donations that are ongoing indefinitely (say £2 every month), but cancellable? Pledges don't seem to support this, as they can't be set to carry on indefinitely. I imagine this is a common requirement but I can't find any reference to it.
