Easily Change Relationship Type to Existing Membership Type with Membership
March 09, 2012, 07:59:36 am
Is there any easy method some could give me to change the membership relationship type from none to employer of without deleting or changing the membership records?  Is my only option to remove and re-add memberships once I have made the relationship type?  Basically I forgot to assign the relationship type before someone else started adding memberships. Thanks.

I ended up exporting memberships and then batch removing them then fixing the relationship type then importing the memberships back in.  Long way around but was only solution I found that wouldn't break the db for sure.

Hi,

For future reference: I followed this "how to" on CiviCRM 4.2.8 and I'm still seeing "You cannot modify relationship type because there are membership records associated with this membership type." Strangely, Kurund said it is a expected behaviour at http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=23143.0 .

Regards!

I'm not sure what you mean by "this how to" ... The rule on changing the relationship type for a membership type is that you can modify it as long as there are no memberships created in the database for that membership type. The reason for this is that memberships are automatically granted to the related contacts when a membership is added - so changing the relationship type after the fact would potentially leave invalid inherited memberships in the database (i.e. the person should NOT have been granted a membership since they are NOT related in the specified way to the primary members).

I am facing a similar issue. I deleted ALL the memberships in our Civi system in order to change the Relationship Type on the Membership Type. It is still showing me the same message: You cannot modify relationship type because there are membership records associated with this membership type.

Attaching the screenshots showing how there are no membership records in the system and the message 'You cannot modify..'.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Try searching for 'Test' memberships.
