Setting up Gmail as a bounce processor - seems only POP works

I've gone through all the permutations of Gmail set up and the Bounced email setup in CiviCRM and it seems the only way I can get a successful connection is via POP using SSL.

Has anyone else attempted to set up Gmail as a bounced mailbox?

I can't even get POP3 to work with my Gmail right now using Civi 4.1.1 and Drupal 7.11. Everything had been working fine on Civi 3.4

Is there documentation anywhere for setting a gmail address for bounce processing?

we should ensure we update those pages if we find something specific for gmail
