Backing up CiviCRM MySQL database for Wordpress,
March 10, 2012, 09:36:48 pm
Hi everyone,

I'm helping to run a small not for profit org and I am very impressed with CiviCRM, however I need to learn how to backup the system before I can commit to using this software.  I'm not very skilled at administering or configuring web based systems so please bear with me :)

Currently CiviCRM v4.1 is running well on a web server configured for Wordpress. I need to migrate the mysql database to a locally installed version of CiviCRM so I can have a local version of the database in the event our network connection to the Internet drops out at our office and we can still access our info, and this would also double as a backup (we live in a rural location so dropouts and extreme weather events are quite frequent). I attempted to use phpmyadmin to export the database, and then I reimported this database on my local server. CiviCRM seemed to have recognised the database, however when I boot up CiviCRM on my local machine none of my contacts are listed.

If anyone out there could give us a hand that would be fantastic!!! Cheers - D.

Since this seems like a general DB / mySql problem - you might want to research (google) tools for MySQL backup and restore. Definitely make sure that you are importing to a DB w/ the correct encoding and INNODB enabled.
