WordPress - Create Search Interface and Directory Listing
March 13, 2012, 07:54:52 am
I know there's a lot to do on the documentation on how to use CiviCRM with Wordpress, so maybe this hasn't been documented yet or I just couldn't find it.

I want to do like example 1 on my WordPress front end so that any of my board members can search our directory of members (I would put the code on a password protected wordpress page).

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Profile+Examples

Are there some step by step instructions or an example that can be put on the demo site to copy for building a front end director search like the Example 1?

I noticed the membership sign ups could be implemented in wordpress with a shortcode that I found in some sample wordpress posts on the demo site. I'm assuming these will get into the documentation so they can easily be found.

I tried to play around with the profiles and use the HTML codes that were produced, but had no luck getting the form to render and to work on the front end.

This page documents some info for Joomla and Drupal but not wordpress yet: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Linking+Profiles#LinkingProfiles-ProfileSearchandListing

Would you be interested in helping lead the wordpress documentation efforts :)

We can update and help you get started on IRC: http://irc.civicrm.org/

There is also a sprint after CiviCon (in early april). One of the focus is documentation, so this might be a good time for some WP folks to jump in and help build the docs for WP +Civi

I would be willing to help with Wordpress Documentation.  However, the question that was posed was not answered.  Is it currently possible to implement a search form for a CiviCRM database, on a wordpress install?  I am now also trying to implement this, and have tried different options with no luck so far.

Let me know how to get started with the documentation.  I can do this as I learn how to implement the various features I am working on for my Wordpress install of CiviCRM.

ps:  I requested/made a suggestion some time ago in the General Discussions board, that a seperate Wordpress Child-board or sub-forum be created to capture the workflow and progress being made by various users implementing CiviCRM on Wordpress.  This has not been responded to.  I think a lot is being lost by not organizing all the topics on Wordpress, in a centralized location (aka child board or subforum).  http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,23848.0.html

1. Due to limited permissioning exposure in wordpress, profile search is not exposed to a non-admin user in wordpress. This will change when a better permissioning model is implemented for the Civi + WP integration

2. Maybe a good place for WP documentation, might be a WP cheat sheet / tips&tricks sheet. In general most of the functionality is available across all 3 CMS'es

3. with regard to WP specific boards, see 2 above.

Thank you for your post MulderSDM, I'm a newbie to CiviCRM and this is exactly the topic I am looking at from a Joomla perspective.

We want our members and visitors to be able to search all the other member organizations. All we want is the organization name, logo, the website (and two lines of member info, that does not necessarily need to be searchable).

1. I can't see how to create the fields for a search form as:

   a) Organization only has a very limited number of options when creating the profile and only one of these is what we want (legal name) which would almost be sufficient if
   b) It keeps saying "fields are not searchable" for those few fields in CiviCRM 4.0.1 and any new ones created.

In the online tutorial on creating profiles, it shows that there used to be a searchable box but that no longer shows in the new version?

Two of our people went on the CiviCRM admin course and they have tried everything they were taught with no success.
I have also tried to do it, following the instructions on the site and with some technical knowledge but no success.

Is there is a functionality issue here?

If you guys can help me...

1. In general it is good to create new topics for something different

2. For profile search listings, u cannot mix contact and membership info (limitation in CiviCRM)

3. Look at the Contact select in the profile section to get other information regarding the org
