I am new to CiviCRM and somewhat new to Joomla. I would like to allow our constituents to set up their own Personal Campaign Pages without donating first. I have followed these instructions that I found in the documentation:

By directly setting up a PCP. This can be exposed to the front-end user via a Joomla menu item of the type CiviCRM > CiviCRM Contribution Pages > Create Personal Campaign Page Contribution/PCP”. This menu item type will have been added to your Joomla back-end during the CiviCRM installation, BUT YOU MUST FIRST create at least one online contribution page as this type of menu item requires a valid reference to a contribution page.

When I navigate to the menu item I have set up, I get two search boxes and six little more info help balloons. It's not working.

Can someone let me know what I might be doing wrong?

Anyone got a solution for this? I've got exactly the same issue (CiviCRM V4.1.1).
I also can't see how to link to a PCP once I've set one up via a donation - the book says "add a Joomla menu item of the type CiviCRM > CiviCRM Contribution Pages > Create Personal Campaign Page Contribution/PCP”, but I don't see that option in the menu manager

I've got 4.1.2 on now and still get the same result. "Create Personal Campaign Pages" is the only menu item I can see that I can create a menu link to, but this gives the "Supporter profile is not set" error. I have created a donations page to link my new item to ..

Any ideas would be appreciated, this is number 1 of a long list of things I need to configure in CiviCRM

two questions :
Is there a joomla version of the test site?
Is there admin access for the test site
In order to test my scenario I need to be able to set up a PCP then link to it from a menu

i have my own test site which is about as vanilla as it's possible to get so I can happily test anything you want on there (and give you a login to test as well if you need)

I have created a PCP following a donation and can see it in the Admin area. I can create a menu item as External URL which links to that page - is this the best way? The documentation appeared to suggest we create a menu item of 'Create Personal Campaign Page Contribution/PCP' but that's not listed (see attachment - screen dump of the menu items on offer)

So if someone makes a donation they can set up a PCP but i still can't let them create a PCP without the donation .. If I try creating a menu item of type CiviCRM / Create Personal Campaign Pages I get a 'you do not have permission to access this page'

Can't test it in the test system because I don't have access rights to create menu items in there

I would create a new menu item but clicking it on it gave an error, was just going to start a thread and saw your work around which does in fact work as you say.

Although, if you want a PCP page on an event change it as follows
http://site.com/index.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/contribute/campaign&action=add&reset=1&component=event&pageId=XXX

note the component=event change, just thought I'd post incase it helps someone else
