Hi,

In CiviCRM 1.9, we can import contributions and membership, and using the external id or contact id, we can establish a match to a specific contact.

Is it possible to do the same with contacts? Let say that we need to import batch updates on contacts?

Right now, when I map the field "contact id" or "external identifier" in the import mapping, I get a duplication error, even if a import in the "Update" mode.

This sounds like a bug. If Update or Fill option is checked and you've mapped either the Internal Contact ID or the External Identifier - then matching records should be updated. The good news is, I ran a quick test in 2.0 with the data below (some of which match the internal contact IDs of my sample data), and it worked as expected - matching records were updated, and I got appropriate error rows reported for non-matches.

Would be great if you could test your "case" in a 2.0 install to make sure there isn't something else going on that is still an issue.
