Dozens of "Strict Standards" errors after installation
March 14, 2012, 10:04:36 pm
Hello everyone!

I am totally new to CiviCRM, and for that matter, to Joomla. I've followed the installation guides to get both up and running on my desktop PC, and that's about what I know aside from what I can apply to CiviCRM through my previous experience with Blackbaud software. Anyone attempting to help me might need to be patient!

So I've gotten CiviCRM installed as a component in Joomla, and when I navigate to Components > CiviCRM, the Dashboard comes up--somewhere underneath a heap of errors that begin with "Strict Standards: Non-static method..." There must be 30-40 of them. I would post them here, but they contain paths which the forum software seems to be interpreting as external weblinks, and it won't let me post them.

Anyone brave enough to take this on?  8)

EDIT: Screenshot added as attachment. If more are needed, let me know. It will require quite a few separate posts to cover them all.

I would recommend displaying "Strict Standards" notices in your php.ini file.

Hi,

What hosting company are you using? The strict standard warning are usually more for development servers than production. In general, they are pointers to things that will be deprecated on the future version of php and other "works but..." issues.

Unless you plan to code with civicrm, I would suggest to disable displaying the strict notices (especially on a production server)

Do you mean I should attach that file instead of screenshots? Does it contain a log of errors or something? And finally, where would I find it? (I am a total noob).

Not planning on coding--just playing around with it to evaluate its usefulness to an organization I worked for. How do I disable the notices?

php.ini is a configuration file for php. Since you are new to this, I would recommend to check with your server administrator and turn off "Strict Standards"

There is no server administrator. I am doing this all on my own PC. I am accessing the Joomla site through localhost. I understand that helping me with PHP might fall outside the foxus of this forum and do not want to take up your time from others, so I can look for an answer to this part elsewhere. Thanks!

I fixed it by turning error reporting off in Joomla's control panel.

Thanks for the suggestions though.  :)
