Check availability in Joomla and CiviCrm Contribution page not working

I have created a site that has a member registration page on it that requires the Joomla account creation but when I click on the check availability link nothing happens. Also the total amount in the form does not display. I have a test site on the same server that this works on but not on this one. They both have Joomla 1.7 and CiviCRM 4.1.1

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this. I have been trying to fix it for weeks.
