reinstall ends in Page Not Found Drupal 6.25 CiviCRM 4.1.1
March 22, 2012, 09:30:48 am
I have been searching the forum and not finding the solution.  Hopefully if this has been answered before, someone will point me to the right thread.  Sorry this is long, I don't want to leave out something that may be relevant.

For the last few months I was working to clean up my data set for import into CiviCRM.  Now that I think I am ready to import, I figured this would be a good time to upgrade both Drupal and CiviCRM to the latest versions before I import the data and move out of testing.

The upgrade of Drupal to 6.25 (from some previous 6.x) went smoothly.  The upgrade of CiviCRM from 3.x didn't go smoothly.  When I pointed my browser at the upgrade page (mydomain/civicrm/upgrade?reset=1 or mydomain/?q=civicrm/upgrade&reset=1) I got only page not found errors.  I did follow the directions carefully and tried every solution I could find in the FAQs and forums.

Eventually I decided to try a clean install.  I deleted all the CiviCRM tables in my Drupal database and renamed civicrm.settings.php.  The install page accepted my settings and reported ready to install.  After the install process, the install page changes to a page not found error rather than returning whatever the normal install results would be.  The database tables have been created but the new settings file has not.

On the chance that it was only an issue with the creation of the settings file,  I renamed the settings file back to civicrm.settings.php and visit mydomain/civicrm/dashboard, I get the following error:

Few things:

- when you did fresh install, which version of CiviCRM did you use? Since you are using drupal 6. you should down use 4.1.x drupal 6 version ro 3.4.x
- why did you replace new civicrm.settings.php with old one ?
- note that the uf name for CiviCRM 4.1.x and drupal 6.x is "Drupal6" in your civicrm.settings.php
- also after install did you try logout / login ?

I used   civicrm-4.1.1-drupal6.tar.gz

Are you saying I should use civicrm-3.4.beta3-drupal.tar.gz   ?

The re-install didn't create a new settings file, the install process failed in some way.  Using the old settings file again was a test to see if it would work.

Yes, I did do that.

I did not try that.  I will when I get back to my office.

Thanks,

Kevin

Install should create civicrm.settings.php, can you make sure your defaults folder si writable. Also is installer all green?

I tried again this morning with a complete re-install, deleted all tables from the database and renamed the settings file.  Logged out and logged back in again to be sure the user session was good.  Then ran the installer again.

This time it did create the new settings file properly and everything appears to be working.  Not sure what was different this time, but I am sure happy to have this issue behind me.

The installer did still returned to a "Page Not Found" at the end of the installation, but maybe that is what is supposed to happen.

No, not at all. But if all else works, you can probably ignore that.

There was indeed still an issue, but I think I have resolved it now.

In addition to renaming civicrm.settings.php, I also needed to rename /files/civicrm, the configuration data in there was messing up the installation.

I now have a clean install that reached the proper response page and is allowing me to go through the configuration checklist.
