The user account used by my webserver (apache) error
March 22, 2012, 11:08:01 am
Does anyone know how to resolve these two error messages?

"The user account used by your web-server needs to be granted write access to the following directory in order to configure the CiviCRM settings file:
 /C:/wamp/www/drupal/sites/default/files"

"The user account used by your web-server needs to be granted write access to the following directory in order to configure the CiviCRM settings file:
 /C:/wamp/www/drupal/sites/default"

Most people on these forums work on Mac or Linux and so Windows help is hard to find, but can you try to adjust the permissions of those two locations to be more writeable? I don't know how Windows file permissions work exactly, but that's the basic issue.

I do think you can set permissions by user, so if so, find the apache user and give him write permission.

Thank you very much for your help.

We have tried setting read/write permissions for all types of users in those folders. We still get the same error message.

We have discovered that the path taken by the CiviCRM 4.1.1 drupal module is incorrect for windows. /C:/Ampps/www/drupal/sites/default. It should start with "C:/" and not "/C:/".

P.S. We did find a way to run linux as a program on a windowsmachine (VMWare Player - http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/beginners-guide-run-linux-like-any-other-program-in-windows.html), but the linux instalation instructions were WAY to complicated for me to understand.

Yes, I also noticed that leading / and was wondering about it. Yes, running Linux as a VM (virtual machine) is an option but it's a bit technical. You can actually download pre-fab virtual machines, but they aren't setup for LAMP.

Anyhow it sounds like perhaps the installer has a hard coded leading / character. Can you look into the code and see if you can find such?

Problem solved!

Apparently, The problem is in civicrm version 4.1.1. We reverted to civicrm version 4.0.8, and the write errors disappeared.

Should I submit a bug report?
