Membership renewal, on behalf of organisation
March 23, 2012, 09:16:49 am
Hi, Hoping someone may be to clarify a problem I'm having.
Running 3.4.7 on Drupal

What I'm experiencing
- Logged in as a user who has a permissioned membership with an organisation
- Attempting to renew the organisation's membership
- When clicking 'on behalf of', it's bringing up the organisation profile fields but isn't autofilling them
- If filled in, adding a new organisation with a new membership.

What I 'think' should happen
- Logged in user renews membership, click 'on behalf' of and present a list of permissioned org or option for new org. If pre-existing, then the details auto fill.

Can anyone confirm that what I 'think' should happen is correct? Also, if there are any recommendations of things to check or any similar resolved experiences it would be greatly appreciated.  Have hit brick wall.....

Hi El

Think i just need to clarify some terms first but I hope I can help.

Quote
- Logged in as a user who has a permissioned membership with an organisation

You may intentionally be conflating the two issues here but just to be clear

- a contact could be an Individual who is 'inheriting' a membership that an Organisation bought or owns

- a contact could be a 'current employee of' the Organisation and have a 'permissioned relationship' which allows them to edit some of the Orgs details.

I believe that for an individual to be able to go to an 'on behalf of' join/renew page, and to see the Org prefilled in the field (if they only have one) then both the above conditions need to be met - and most certainly the second one does - which is likely to be the missing factor in my experience.

Hope that helps

Pete

Hi Pete,
You've given me a couple of ideas which I'll test now. I'll let you know the results.
Thanks,
El

Hi Pete,
Your experience is spot on :)  it prompted me to test this again by doing the following:

Changing the relationship between the organisation and individual from a custom one ("represented by" as they're not employees) to current employee.
The renewal form now autofills the organisations' details when the individual is trying to renew on their behalf.

Thanks for your prompt to check this.

El

Also, remember that custom data for membership will not auto-populate just yet either. Only the organizational custom data in this use case.  4.2 has this as a scheduled fix for custom data of membership type. Just FYI, since I was in the same boat.
