Snail mail addresses are wrong - is there an on hold for mail out addresses?
March 26, 2012, 11:36:46 am
I have a client with several contacts that need address updates.  They get penalized everytime a mailout  is returned.  Is there an 'on hold' tool for mailing addresses [similar to email].  That can be checked off to trigger a 'please update address' action.

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

No, not built-in. You can potentially extend "Address" with a custom field for this purpose.

Lobo,

it may be useful to keep the old address for historical purposes (or to avoid putting the wrong one in again) -- it seems logical to have a checkbox to disable an address, but I can see how this would change quite a bit of the logic to select an address for a contact ...

Perhaps a workaround is to have an 'obsolete' address type in addition to 'Home' -- I couldn't find the option list for this. Anyone ?

Yep, the approach you've outlined is the way we normally setup CiviCRM for our clients.

Hey Paul

Guessing you meant Dave's response not Lobo's!

I have two approach's - depending on the clients need

1. Create a new address type as you've suggested and amend addresses to that type if they are no longer valid. Make sure they are not set to the primary address and that normally covers things.

2. Add a goneaway flag (along with a bunch of other blocks) and use that with a hook to do some trickery i.e. set the no mailing etc. This works ok where the client does not differentiate between a user requested block and an invalid address block.

Hope that helps.

Yes, address type change is what I was considering. Which option group is that ? I couldn't find it
