Clash with extended profiles when using Buddypress
March 28, 2012, 03:34:59 am
Hi, I have finally got round to installing and testing civi within a worpdress installation. Sorry for the slowness. I am aware that multisite and buddypress are probably not top of the list for supporting, but that's the environment I am working in so I thought I would just post any issues I find. They may help to uncover other things which are closer on the roadmap.

Setup:
Wordpress 3.3.1 with multisite enabled
Buddypress 1.5.5

If you have buddypress installed with extended profiles enabled and civicrm installed but not activated.
Go to the Buddypress > Profile Fields from the Network Dashboard and observe that you can add and edit fields to the extended profiles.

To recreate the problem enable the civicrm plugin, either network wide or as a super-admin on the root site of your network only - tried it both ways - go back to Buddypress > Profile Fields and try to edit or add any fields and you will find that it no longer works. Re-ordering the existing fields does work and is successfully saved.

Workaround would be to disable your civicrm plugin until you have set up the desired profile fields then re-enable civicrm.

The only php error I saw on this page which related to civi was a notice:
Code: [Select]
wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm.php:450 - Trying to get property of non-object
Cheers,
Douglas.

Douglas:

cool, thanx fo testing and documenting this.

This will be useful when someone in the WP/Civi community decides to support BuddyPress and having a known list of issues would definitely help. Please continue logging all issues you find on this topic :)

FWIW, this problem no longer seems to exist, using WordPress 3.4.2, BuddyPress 1.6.1, CiviCRM 4.2.2. I can happily add, edit and delete the custom BuddyPress Profile Fields.
