Data not displaying after import
April 02, 2012, 12:23:46 pm
I am having an interesting problem. I imported a set of populated fields custom fields and standard fields. The standard fields were displayed in the database but the custom fields were not. However, when I exported the data the fields had data in them. So it appears that the data was successfully loaded into the database but Civi is not displaying it.

Anyone had this problem or have any idea on what a solution would be?

Thank!!

Another detail to add. Using bulk update via profile or a standard profile does work. The problem only seems to occur with import.

And one other detail! Importing data into these same custom fields was successful prior to a Civi 4.1.1 upgrade.

If I had to make an educated guess, I would guess that this is a contact subtype issue.  Are you using contact subtypes?  If so, what contact subtype is your custom field groups set up to work with?

Also, have you seen this thread?  It outlines another possibility (that you're using read-only fields): http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,23363.0.html

The contact subtype is the standard organisations and the view only box is not checked in the custom data field. I read that other thread too, my problem looks distinct from that one...

Problem solved.

The data in the .cvs did not match the "Values" of the custom fields because of spacing and capitalisation. However, the data was close enough that in synced with the database. I guess because the spelling matched the value. This is why when exported the data appeared and also why when searching the Civi for those fields resulted in contacts with the data but it was not displayed.

So the lesson is, make sure that the Values match the spreadsheet. Especially the data can be successfully imported in the database but know show up in the GUI.
