Import Panic
April 03, 2012, 02:17:22 pm
One of my clients contacted me in a panic hoping to import several thousand contacts  of which some already existed and needed their files updates.  I ran the import to alleviate their stress and informed them the import went through successfully.
They realized after  they provided me with a wrong list and NOW want to go back to what they previously had.  Is it possible to revert data from before an import [without restoring from a back up]?

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

I don't believe there's any sort of revert feature. Does their hosting provider offer auto backups since you don't seem to have backed it up manually before the import?

Hello Markimus,

This should help:

1. Go to Search-->Advanced search.

2. Scroll down and expand the Change Log accordion. Select Added, Choose Date Range, and set the dates (From and to) to the day that you did the import. The search will return all of the contacts that were added on that day.

3. Select all records from the search. From the actions dropdown select Delete permanently (or delete contacts if you want the chance to undelete them).

That will at least remove the contacts that were created that day.

Cheers,
Jason

Hi Jason - my Advanced Search doesn't have the changelog accordion. Is there somewhere I need to enable it?
I have logging active and can track changes on contact records.

Hello Markimus,

Go to Administer-->Customize Data and Screens-->Display preferences. Scroll  down to contact search and make sure you have Change Log checked. save and go to your advanced search. Should be there now.

Cheers,
Jason
