Email System Configuration Docs
April 04, 2012, 08:00:14 pm
I am looking forward to helping out during this doc sprint for email system configuration. I figured why not start a thread in the process.

First I'll collect all pages that provide civimail setup + cron/job processing instructions relevant to civimail so we can have some continuity between them.

http://en.flossmanuals.net/civicrm/basic-setup/system-configuration/
http://en.flossmanuals.net/civicrm/ch042_system-configuration/
Why are there two floss pages that are almost identical, do we need two?

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/CiviMail
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/CiviMail+Installation
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/CiviMail+Processor
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Managing+Scheduled+Jobs
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=47711167

Assumptions on my part will be simular to previous civimail doc assumptions: Linux server with gmail IMAP for bounce processing. I'd also like to see a bit of managed SMTP (Sendgrid) info in there too (especially the part about forwarded bounces).

I've started to delve into email system config (using the docs). As I see issues I will post comments here. My starting point will be what appears to be the most recent of the above urls, the wiki's CiviMail documentation: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/CiviMail+Installation

The wiki references floss page http://en.flossmanuals.net/civicrm/ch042_system-configuration/ but is not clear if the user should first follow those instructions and then return to the wiki.

Suggested change: Make one page the authority and do not cross link unless both are supplementary.

The floss page references deprecated files: EmailProcessor.php and civimail.cronjob.php

Suggested change: remove the references and upgrade instructions to reflect 4.1 changes (Scheduled Jobs)

I am having tech difficulties trying to modify the floss manual so I am focusing on the wiki. I have edited the wiki to reflect the above suggestions and to read better for novices.

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/CiviMail+Processor is referencing a file in bin that does not exist and does not appear in the deprecated folder: CiviMailProcessor

Not sure how to update this part of the wiki. Perhaps someone with a more intimate understanding of civimail can chime in here.
