How does the beta testing work
February 20, 2008, 03:29:11 am
Hi there,

I haven't quite got this sussed. I reported a bug and within minutes (well I exaggerate) but fairly quickly some one fixed it & updated the code. I'm just wondering - can I just then download the file and ftp it up to my site? Is that how I get the fix. I'm hoping it might tie in with another bug I've hit which I can't reproduce on the sandbox but is on the same page about 100 lines earlier (probably clutching at straws but still). I logged the other problem elsewhere on the forums.

Eileen,

Answering your question - it probably depends on the nature of the problem that was fixed - it you're sure that the fix was isolated to single file change, than uploading this very file to your testing install shouldn't be very risky. There is a slight chance that single file change is connected to some other fixes in other files and that uploading the file might break other things, but you should be able to fix it quickly (or rather bring it back to original broken state) by uploading backed-up file again. In general, if you're not sure about which file to choose, it's better to wait for next beta release (beta2 should happen in next couple of hours).

Thx,
m
