Civi Breaks Com_Installer
May 17, 2007, 06:52:52 am
After having to install Civi Manually b/c joomla's core installer component couldn't seem to handle it, I now find that my com_installer panel is entirely broken.  I cannot get to it at all.  What has Civi changed and how can I change it back without have to uninstall Civi?  This has happened before, and when I uninstalled I was able to return to my component installation page, and I thought that with the most recent upgrade that might just go away, but no.  Please help, anyone.

i dont think we do anything in the core that touches com_installer in any manner. If and when you figure it out please update this thread so we can "fix" anything if needed. We've not seen/heard of this behavior

well, being that I'm not a seasoned hacker, I could only go so far as to just get rid of Civi to solve the problem...

Because I couldn't get into the Com Installer section of the backend so to uninstall using Joomla's management system, I had to ftp in and delete the com_civicrm files from both the regular component and the admin component directories.  Once done, I was again able to open the com_installer page in the backend, where Civi still appeared present in the system, went ahead a selected it and went through the unistall which gives me a "Failed" response since it had already been deleted, but doing this also removed it from the components list there in the installer window.  Sorry I could not solve it truly, and very sorry it looks like I cannot use Civi -- it would have been perfect for our foundation, and has been very frustrating to try to get working.  Thanks.

Don't give up vebmoore!

I've seen that happen before, it's not a com_installer thing, rather an failed component install that jumbles up the display of the admin area that retrieves info from the failed component and corrupts the view, uninstalling (manually if needed) fixes this issue, as you found out.

What is your server setup? Did you do install from directory?

You have to know that I've gone through this install/uninstall so many times -- hoping that with each upgrade of civi, things will work out better.  of course, as you can see, things have gotten no better.

General server information:

Operating system    Linux
Kernel version           2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp
Machine Type         i686
Apache version         1.3.37 (Unix)
PERL version           5.8.7
Path to PERL           /usr/bin/perl
Path to sendmail      /usr/sbin/sendmail

PHP version            5.0.5
MySQL version          4.1.21-standard-log
cPanel Build             10.9.0-CURRENT 10724
Theme                     cPanel X v2.6.0

And yes, I installed from directory b/c joomla component install would time out.

hope you can help me!  :)
