Sudden limitation on attachment size
April 18, 2012, 04:50:58 am
Two of our customers using civi smtp have reported the following error message in the past couple of days.
Code 451; response:Queing declined or disabled. Try again later
Both customers were sending just one attachment. One attachment was a pdf of 450kb, the other a word.doc of 900kb

Hi

There is a limitation of 100k per email.  This includes the email text and attachment.

This should have been the case all along, but there was a bug that allowed larger attachments to be sent.  The bug was discovered and fixed this last weekend when we were doing system wide upgrades.

To get around this, it is recommended that you upload your file to a server and provide a link to users.

100k is about half a Word document page, or a few PDF pages. Not a very efficient email system. Our customers will not be happy.
Can we please have the "bug" back. In this instance the bug would actually be an enhancement.

Hi,

Services like MailChimp, Constant Contact,  Icontact etc do not allow mail attachments at all and neither did we at first; then we changed our minds about it a few years ago to allow small attachments.

We apologize for the inconvenience and recommend that you upload a file provide a link to your constituent.
