Batch Update Contact Type

I didn't see this in any of the search results but if I missed it please point me in the right direction.  I can batch update just about any data field I can thing of with the exception of the "Contact Type" or in my instance the sub-type of an organization.  I just don't see the field I need to add to my profile that would allow me to update this.  I tried the contact sub-type field but that just comes up blank in both preview and when trying to use in a profile for batch update purposes.

contact type / sub-type is a fairly important field and changing that as a few other implications including potential data loss

hence it is not included

I see the impact for sure, guess it's off to do this process manually. What if we didn't care about custom fields assigned to the contact type. could we force this somehow?
