hook_civicrm_contactListquery is not called after upgrade 3.2 -> 4.1.1

We have a Drupal module that provides hook routines like ourstuff_civicrm_contactListQuery - and also has Drupal hook routines like ourstuff_menu .

Worked fine with Drupal 6 and Civi 3.2, and Drupal continues to call its hooks after upgrading to Civi 4.1.1 (version for D6, thanks Eileen!).

It seems that in 4.1.1, hook_civicrm_contactListQuery is not called for custom fields of the contact reference - autocomplete select type. It *is* called from the search box in the CiviCRM menu.

In fact our existing contact reference - autocomplete fields no longer get autocomplete data of any kind. For contact reference - autocomplete fields created after the DB upgrade, Civi is calling the civicrm_optionvalues hook each time data is entered in the field.

So, is this a documentation bug, a software bug, or squishy-bit-between-keyboard-and-chair bug?
