connecting the database
April 22, 2012, 10:13:27 am
Okay, so now I have a new installation issue.  I sure hope I haven't done this wrong...

I went from using a subfolder on a domain with Joomla / CiviCRM to a subdomain with WordPress / CiviCRM (latest version).  When I pointed to the database in the new scenario, it took the settings.  However, I'm not seeing any of my contact, event, contributions etc. info.  What do I need to do to load it in the new system?

I am able to make a backup of the database.  Does import make sense, or would that duplicate the data?

An odd thing (to me anyways) was that the former scenario no longer works.  When I go to load CiviCRM, it get error messages about setting tmp folders to writeable, and even when I do that, nothing changes.  But I'm not as interested in salvaging the former scenario, unless that is essential to making the new scenario take.

Thanks!  Sorry to be so untrained in these things.

I don't follow. The new install points to a new DB or the old one? If it's the old one, then you should see all the data. Perhaps manually verify in phpMyAdmin that your contacts are in the civicrm_contacts table of the DB that is being used.

Yes, indeed ~ the new install points to the old DB (at least I thought ~ that is what it seemed like during the installation verification process), but the data is not showing.

Only 2 contacts in  the table civicrm_contact (notice no "s" on the end).  When I view through phpMyAdmin, I can only see those two records.  However, when I look at the raw data in an exported sql file, the contacts are in there ~ some 280 of them...  I can't discern what table they are in either through the sql file or the list of tables in phpMyAdmin.

thx always!

Oy.  Maybe the contacts aren't in there ~ I just searched for street addresses and couldn't find them.

Is it possible that the new install overwrote the civicrm_contact table of 280 some contacts with just the two admin records that are in there?

No the installer won't erase data. If tables exist, it will actually complain that CiviCRM is already installed. I think you have made a mistake with switching DBs somewhere.
