Live in 36hrs and Contribute Pay later causing 500 error....no debug output

Contribute Pay later - Joomla 2.5.4 Civi 4.1.1

When i turn on pay later option and go to make payment the screen goes blank with a 500 error when I hit the continue button.

My log shows:

THought it might be my custom templates so i removed them all, cleared cache, reinstalled default templates.
Same issue.

Completely lost on debugging as no info shows and the smarty error line number is only the smarty error trigger.....

Any ideas/help appreciated! Suposed to be live in 36 hrs and we added this option in today.

Otherwise its all fine :)

OK the issue is smarty system message workflow template
I added style declaration without literal surround tags in template.
Still a more graceful fall over would be nice. :)
