CiviCRM 3.4 Files in CiviCRM 4.1 for Drupal 6?
April 23, 2012, 07:18:53 pm
I am back to try CiviCRM again. I am using Drupal 6.25 on a multisite install but I only want CiviCRM to be used for one site, so I put it in /sites/{domain}/modules/ instead of /sites/all/modules/.

I downloaded the correct version of CiviCRM: civicrm-4.1.2-drupal6.tar.gz.

I made a second database to keep the CiviCRM data separate from the Drupal site.

I tried to install CiviEngage but it threw an error so I paged back, saw that CiviEngage was not checked and kept on trying to set up CiviCRM. Before too long my custom color scheme I’d made in Garland went away and I was back at the default blue and my sidebars (which relied on Views) were goofed up too.

At some point I tried to install CiviEngage again and it threw the same error, so I tried to find out if it was mentioned in this forum. I found it here: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,24162.0.html

When I went to the site trevorforrest mentions I noticed the header of the file, it said “CiviCRM version 4.1” then I noticed the header in my download and it says “CiviCRM version 3.4.”

I then checked lots of other files in the civicrm/drupal/ folder and they too all have “CiviCRM version 3.4” at the top, so I’m thinking there is a problem with how CiviCRM is being packaged, that somehow version 4 for Drupal 6 is getting version 3 files.

Here is the link to the most recent CiviCRM for Drupal 6, I’m hoping someone can take a look at the Drupal part of it.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/civicrm/files/civicrm-stable/4.1.2/civicrm-4.1.2-drupal6.tar.gz/download

Thanks.

Actually - the drupal 6 version of the UF is still sitting under 3.4 codebase - I think we will move it into another repo before too long but it can't sit in the same codebase as d7 because d6 code 'finds' the d7 stuff

Wow. If only I knew what that meant.  :-[

I did look around the fisheye2.atlassian.com website and all I saw was “drupal;” nothing specific to 6 or 7, so I was reluctant to wholesale copy/paste files to get ones that read CiviCRM version 4.1 to replace the ones in my download.

In your other post to me you mentioned filing a ticket. I’m guessing you mean via “Issue Tracker” above? I didn’t see the nomenclature there for ticket, so am not exactly sure.  And like I said, I mostly have a gut instinct something isn’t being exported/packaged properly, due to the other post I referenced, and the version numbers at the top of the drupal specific files in the download I linked to above.  But I could be wrong.

Mostly I just wanted to give CiviCRM another chance.  The last time I tried it I was obviously on an underpowered host, things have changed a bit and I wanted to try it again.

Thanks for your help.

- Drew

It means that seeing 3.4 is OK and it's still really 4.1 CiviCRM. :)

Yes, go to the Issue Tracker and create a new "Issue."

if this is a new install, u should just install Drupal 7. Will save a lot of upgrade issues down the road, IMO

Thank you Hershel & Donald.

Thanks Hershel for the clarification.

While this is a new install of CiviCRM I am running a bunch of sites on Drupal 6 which have been around a few years.  Although since I am not a major (or even medium to minor) programmer, I’ve taken care to install as few modules as possible to mitigate upgrade difficulties.  So it might be possible for me to upgrade them to Drupal 7 first … but …

Right now I am too busy to upgrade them, so it looks like I will have to put this off for a bit longer. Bummer.  At the Issue Tracker site it looks like I have to create an account there, as well as figure out that interface.  I was hoping that I could get up and running within a day and then ease into submitting issues as I delved deeper (over the course of weeks).  I don’t want to be a wet blanket, but I wasn’t counting on stubbing my toe so early in the process, so … I’m a bit bummed out.

However, I haven’t given up.  I’ll be back.  :)

Nearly a year later, I've just spent a little bit of time bringing CiviEngage up to date for D6.

I've not yet tested it extensively (TBH I know little of what CiviEngage offers) but I will report back and hopefully supply a patch against 4.2 or 4.3, whichever best suits the client in question.

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-12314 is the issue - this has been marked closed by CiviCRM team but I will re-open it if we have something worth committing.

Work in progress is at https://github.com/GiantRobot/civicrm-drupal/commit/6.x-4.2
