IS it possible to override profiles per id in a Contribution page?

I have template overides working ok to my custom template path but cant seem to get a profile specific override to work for a contribution page.

Assuming its possible shouldnt the profile template just be in the standard format:
 /templates/CRM/Profile/Form/[id]/file.tpl

no. u'll need to override the contribution page where the profile is embedded
