Documentation for non-sandbox Web Paypal standard not present
February 20, 2008, 11:23:21 pm
I have just finished configuring and testing a new install of civicrm with processing for paypal web standard and everythng works fine in the sandbox,  but I am concerned that while the documentation has a title ( PayPal Website Payments Standard and Recurring Contributions at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/PayPal+Website+Payments+Standard+and+Recurring+Contributions)  the section itself only addresses: PayPal Configuration for Website Payments Standard - Testing Sandbox. In other words,  the documentation provides details for configuration of the sandbox ONLY on the PayPal side,  and does not contain the necessary little statement as to whether the realtime configuration should be set the same way as the merchant sandbox.

Could someone confirm that that they are to be set the same way and perhaps even comment on the implications of some of the other PayPal side settings??

Thanks

Eileen

What version are you using? Did you have any trouble with it not returning to the correct page? It is returning to my home page at the moment but I am on the BETA. All the e-mails worked fine.

I am finding the developer site pretty unusable at the moment so I did a $2 transaction on the live site instead using all the same things and it worked except I didn't land back on the confirmation page I expected.

Did you set the switches on paypal the same you did for live?
While I know it is a problem to keep documentation current,  the set-up documentation really needs a bit of work....

The wiki is user editable.  As you go through the paypal setup process, please edit and correct the mistakes / rewrite as needed.

As an open source project, help from the community in such projects is incredibly helpful to us and the rest of the community :)

Yes, I did all the same switches - I added quite a big comment to the end of the wiki. The problems I had were specifically paypal problems and ones that other people using paypal (not specifically civiCRM) had had - i.e. 3004 errors due to poor availability and the test credit card numbers which I generated through the paypal directions not being used. I tried all the recommendations (deleting cookies, not using the same credit card / cookie combo twice etc) but I was also mindful that people were posting to forums saying they had wasted a week on it and I decided that I'd rather waste a few $ (at 50 cents per transaction) on the live site than waste any more of my time.

I am not interested in whether people with paypal accounts can pay as there is so little uptake in NZ - I was only testing whether people with no account can pay by credit card.

Thats unfortunate....  I had a much smoother paypal set-up,  though civicrm COntribute was a bit stubborn as far as profiles and data ( I assumed that data collected in making a contribution without any custom profile would be saved somewhere,  but the system asked for address and than  apparently did not save that info anywhere and profiles were a huge perm issue).

The only issue I had was that the detail for the sandbox test was a bit oblique if you had not gone through it....  but it worked flawlessly....

As I mentioned , there was no info in the wiki about set up for genuine pay,  and I did not feel competent to edit the wiki because I did not know if what I had done (setting the real account in paypal the same way as the sandbox) was really working (for example, while it seems that I wento the thank you page in the sand box,  in the real deal I did not.....)

So there are quite a few set up issues to be addressed.....  and I guess you are left to your own devices in some respects to figure it out.....   and while commenting on what may (or may not have worked ) may be appropriate in a forum,  I am always reluctant to go hacking away at a wiki for fear of making things worse for the next guy ;=}

but I will try to check out your info there and compare it to my experience.

I only just realized I was trying to follow non-existent documentation ..  ???

Can anyone tell me what I need to choose in "Request API Credentials" from Paypal?

"Request API Signature" or "Request API Certificate"?
My worst fear is that the rhythm really is going to get me.

Argh! I requested API credentials (I figured it's not a certificate because that's a text file) and the info I got doesn't fit the fields on Website Payments Standard configuration page, they fit Website Payments Pro (API Username, API Password and Signature).

I double-checked, the Paypal acct I signed up for is definitely "Standard".
My worst fear is that the rhythm really is going to get me.

OK. So I went ahead and used the Paypal Pro page since that's where the info fit.

I configured a contribution page to use it and test-drove it (LIVE).

I had to enter the Credit Card info on our site which I didn't expect but I guess that is a feature of Pro vs Standard?

Anyway, Here's what I ended up with:

Payment Processor Error message
: 10501:Invalid Configuration
My worst fear is that the rhythm really is going to get me.

For paypal standard, the only info we need is "email address" of the paypal account. Check: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/paymentProcessor?action=add&reset=1&pp=PayPal_Standard

For your error with paypal pro, check: https://www.paypal.com/IntegrationCenter/ic_api-errors.html
