Adding Membership option to a contribute page Question
April 28, 2012, 11:23:42 pm
I have a contribution page setup that allows people to make contributions to my church. I have recently decided to use CiviMember to keep track of Members of the church, this of course is not a paid membership, but i like the additional features available within CiviMember for reporting and what not.

Anyway, I included the Membership block on this contribution page to allow a person to add themselves to the Church Membership roll. the question is this: If a person is already listed as a Member it shows the "No Thank You." option. If a person clicks this and completes the contribution does that remove them from the Membership, in effect cancelling their Membership?

I've already tweaked this tpl file because the Help line had a typo in it and it stated the person had a Lifetime Membership, etc. I also moved the line below the Membership Block so it looked better. I could just use an If statement to not display that whole block if the person was a member, but would like to know what happens if they click No thank You.

You can see the screen shot in the attachment.

Hi - I don't quite follow this - are you wanting to 'think' of them as a 'member' only for the duration of their 'recurring payments'?

It sounds like you are using Life Membership, is that right?

Yes a person has a life membership to the church (unless they transfer to another church then the Membership is set to Transferred which is a canceled Membership).

I just wanted to add a way for a person to add themselves to the Church Member Roll. Is there a way I can just create a profile that will allow a person to Join without contributing?

You can create a Membership page that does not require a payment afaik - how this will work with your Lifemembership is uncertain - but have you tried it?
