Incomplete Emails

There was a discussion here http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,21240 last year about a problem where event registration emails show

for custom fields. There was an issue filed but no patch as the team couldn't reproduce it. I think.

The first patch in that issue http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-8746 from Helen Bergin fixed the issue, but now that this site has been upgraded to D7 and CiviCRM 4.1.2 the issue has returned.

There are no custom templates in use and the patch now doesn't work.

I wonder if the key to replicating this (lesson learned from the King of Replication) is to use an upgraded site. I don't have a record of what version was used when this site was made, but I do know it was installed on 08/30/2010 and would have used the latest stable release then, which appears to have been 3.2.4 from SourceForge.

Any ideas how to fix this?

can u replace the message templates with the latest version from 4.1 (as also mentioned in the issue) and see if that fixes the problem
