Allowing users to register as a volunteer via CiviCRM
May 07, 2012, 09:33:13 am
We are using Drupal with CiviCRM and would like to have an option for someone to register as a Drupal user and while doing so have the option to become a volunteer for our organization. I already have a CiviCRM profile used for Drupal User Registration which just collects some general information that we would like to capture in CiviCRM. If they would like to be a volunteer then we would like to collect some additional information. Is there a way to have multiple Drupal registrations, one connected to one CiviCRM profile and another connected to a different CiviCRM profile? I see that if I create another CiviCRM profile and make it used for Drupal User Registration that it will then append itself to the one Drupal registration that I have but I would prefer to have a separate ‘volunteer registration’ as the information collected would be different.

Or perhaps there is a better way of trying to do this?

yes, you can require a drupal account be created on any Profiie - so fire up a new Profile with the fields you want - and under Advanced Settings for the Profile set it to require Drupal account - does that do it?

Oh - forgot to say, other way we have done this in past is to set the 'volunteer' up as an event with a drupal-requiring profile or with an Activity - that way we can ensure that we keen see the changes a volunteer might be making about their availability / interest - ie develop a history rather than just have standard contact Custom Fields which get overwritten each time they update it.
Advantage though of standard Profile is you can expose it on the Drupal User edit pages along with your other Profiles for Name and Address etc
