Mail SMTP settings
May 09, 2012, 08:49:46 pm
My hosting provider (DreamHost) has recently gotten "serious" about some kind of spam prevention measures that I don't understand.  What it means for me is that I can't get any of the bulk mailing stuff in CiviCRM to work anymore - I can successfully send a test message from civicrm/admin/setting/smtp, but when I do "find contributions -> print or email contribution receipts" (using the "Contributions - Receipt (on-line)" template), the message fails to send, with this error:

Quote
The mail library returned the following error message:
Failed to send data [SMTP: Invalid response code received from SMTP server while sending email. This is often caused by a misconfiguration in Outbound Email settings. Please verify the settings at Administer CiviCRM >> Global Settings >> Outbound Email (SMTP). (code: 550, response: 5.7.1 Sender domain not allowed. Please read: http://dhurl.org/20b)]

From reading previous messages in this forum, it seems like this might have something to do with VERP.  Does that sound likely?  If so, is there a way to disable that & just send as regular non-tracked messages?  We only send a few dozen of these thank-you messages per year.

Thanks.

I meant to ask one more question - is it possible that the "From:" address is *not* being set to the default value from "civicrm/admin/options/from_email_address" ?  I'm looking at the "Sender domain not allowed" part of the error and scratching my head, because the From address is the same one I'm using for SMTP authentication.
