I have had the issue as well for some time.  I had executed the Mailings scheduler job from the schedule jobs option under the administration menu.
Execute it once the first 10 (sounds right) go through but the job doesn't finish.  I simply executed the job a second time and everything ran through.
I never set up any automatic scripts for this just executing the job from the menu twice.

Thanks. I've executed my job 3 times and have had a total of 200 of my ~18k list sent to. When the job does not finish, I cancel it -- then I manually remove the successful emails from my list so they won't receive the email again (since it's cancelled, it's not on the list of completed jobs, so I can't select to not send to those recipients). This is very time consuming and frustrating, and, ultimately, not a workable solution for my client. But I appreciate the comment.

My latest update, which I'm hoping someone can shed light on. I've read many posts about this issue now, and all of them resolve with the thinking that if the cron job fires twice it will send to all -- sending to 10 the first time and to the rest the second time. So I've refocused my efforts on getting my cron job to successfully work.

Now I'm stuck with an error message when I try the URL method directly in my browser, using:

http://DOMAIN/wp-content/plugins/civicrm/civicrm/bin/cron.php?name=LOGIN&pass=PASSWORD&key=SITEKEY

The error that comes back is:

Fatal error: Call to a member function pagelines_register_sections() on a non-object in /home/go9anpf/public_html/wp-content/themes/pagelines/includes/class.sections.php on line 79

My assumption is that when the cron job using wget and the above is triggered it does not complete due to this error -- having to do with the Pagelines framework I'm using for my theme. Searching the Pagelines forums for a fix, I found this post:

http://www.pagelines.com/forum/topic/25739-civicrm-pagelines-no-cron/

Trying the crm.php code listed in the above post did not change anything for me.

The more I try to work through this, the deeper it seems to go--when all I want is a reliable way to send my client's email to their large list. Any help or advice (geared toward an advanced-novice level front-end developer) would be much appreciated!

Wondering if anyone has got any further with this issue.

We've just had a mailing stuck, caused we think by something else that is making the cron task fail, but when manually triggering the mailing the first time only ten messages are being sent.

In our case when we manually triggered a second time the reminder of the mailing, about 2500 in this case, went without further ado, which was a relief.

This is on a Wordpress site running CiviCRM 4.2.6.
