Mailings get stuck at "Running" state
May 14, 2012, 01:12:13 pm
Dear forum,

I have been running CiviCRM with Joomla for a while now and recently mailings stopped being processed properly. I cannot find the reason why.

What happens: I can add a new mailing, select a group, write the mail, and I can successfully send the "test mail" which can be done at the one before last step when creating the mailing. The mail is sent properly to the e-mail address specified. Then I finish creating the mailing saying "Send now". Now the state changes to Scheduled and then I fire manually my crontab script, which changes the state to Running. And that's it. It just gets stuck at this state and no mails are sent.

Any ideas how to debug this problem?

Thanks,
Nejc

I'm having the same problem with 2 sites using CiviCrm. One has been fine in the past, but now won't send mail through scheduling, the other is a brand new site and civil install and has the same issue.

Test mails and mails from contact profiles work, but scheduled mailing don't.

Frustrated. Don't suppose anyone's solved this issue?

Ian. (still 'Running'!)

Hi,

Yes I upgraded to 4.2.7 and now I am also having issues with mailing stuck in Running state.
I even had to run an execute now to trigger it and now it's been all day and they are still stuck in Running State.

Please advise

Corey

I'm managing to get mails out using 'execute now', but it doesn't send them all at once. Takes me a couple of goes to get my list of 100 to send.

Still tinkering in the hopes of stumbling across a solution.

Will report back if I'm successful!

I am having the same issue on version 4.2.7.   I am trying to send a message to a standard group of just 45 contacts.    I have been debugging the file "CRM/Mailing/BAO/Job.php". What I have noticed so far:  It gets into the function "deliverGroup" with all 45 records in the array "$fields".    However, in the loop that starts as "foreach ($fields as $key => $field) {  "    the code only loops 10 iterations.

The first 10 contacts get an email, but the rest do not. Plus the job is stuck in a "Running" state forever.

Has any body found a solution for this? I have exactly the same problem and I have managed to send half of my mails (to 3000 contacts) using the 'execute now' and half still stuck on running for two days now.
I have tried to use the same 'execute now' functionality several times but that doesn't help either the status has remained on running, don't know what to do .
Any ideas??

thanks

can we get a copy of your DB as is in the current state. We can take a look at it locally and see whats happening and why

Hi Lobo,
Do you want a copy of the whole db (mysqldump?) or a certain section of the db? Is it okay if I can ask my supervisor about it? And this is only possible after the 1st of April because of the long Easter holiday. Thank you for willing to help.

Best,
Kennedy

Hi Lobo,
finally got all my mails sent after a couple of days, just tried with the same 'execute now' functionality and it finally work (strange behaviour). Is there any wild guess of what must have happened?
thank you for willing to help.

Best,
Kennedy

sorry, seems like this is system / site / server specific. We have not narrowed this down

If there has been a solution identified, can someone please post it? I'm experiencing something very similar on my installation (see my set-up at left).

I have a list of about 18k that I'm sending to, and the first time I tried it, 10 were sent, then the batch was shown as "running" but nothing more ever happened.

I cancelled that run, did some research here, switched to a hosted SMTP solution (SMTP.com) instead of using my HostGator mail account for the send, tried again, and 10 more were sent, the batch was shown as "running" but nothing more ever happened.

I cancelled this second run, did some more research here, changed my CiviMail settings to Mailer Job Size = 1000 (thinking maybe the send was getting clogged up at SMTP.com) and this time 180 were sent before the batch seemed to stop sending, even though it shows as "running".

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
