Additional contribution on events
May 18, 2012, 03:10:30 pm
Apologies of this is a duplicate…

Allowing for registrants to make an additional contribution when registering for an event is a common request with clients I have installed CiviCRM for and in the past I took a really roundabout route to achieve this (A really roundabout route!).

But then at CiviCon (I'm only just going through the notes I made now), a presenter in the main room (and I can't remember who now, sorry) had this exact functionality on their event registrations, when I asked how they did it, he said "just put an additional donation for events with a text field on price sets".

Which sounded so fantastically simple I couldn't believe it! So now, I'm trying this and struggling to figure out how to do that. I've tried creating custom fields and adding them to all sorts of data types, delved into price sets and can't find a field type that people can enter their own value in…

Am I missing something really simple and being an idiot or is this not actually possible and the speaker had actually done something far more complicated?

Thanks!

ChrisChinchilla :

Price sets offer you a bunch of options - text (defining your own fee - which is what you probably want), checkboxes, and radios all under one set without having to use custom fields for the same.
You might want to read a bit more about price sets here : http://book.civicrm.org/user/events/setup

and more specifically Complex event fees with price setssection.

For sure, but as far as I can see there are still fixed prices, not an opportunity for registrants to enter whatever additional contribution they wish to enter… As I saw at CiviCon…

Make the unit price $1. Suppress showing the price. Add help text asking user to add an additional contribution. The user enters a amount which for the price set is a quantity but the right number of $ :)

Ha! Thanks Lobo, equally as sneaky but much tidier :-)

Dear community,

this is my problem too. Lobo your solution is not bad, but not good for me. I would like to limit the participant number (maximum 100 guest), but not the contribution in in cash $.

how to solve this?

thank you

it's possible out of the box or main code? important the paypal module coworking.

No dont think this is possible if you want to use only the event registration code.

You might want to use a different contribution page once the event is filled up and redirect your users to that page to contribute
