Hi, this is my first post here. I inherited a CiviCRM installation from a new client who wasn't happy with their developer so I am relatively new to Civi. So far I've managed to do everything I need, but I am now having a strange issue with an account.

Basically, a user logs in, makes changes to their profile and saves - everything saves fine. After logging out and logging back in, the changes are gone. Upon further inspection, CiviCRM is creating a duplicate profile each time this user saves. As far as I can tell, this is only happening on one account, I'm not able to replicate it on new accounts or my existing Super Admin account. This user was a "Registered" user, that I upgraded to Super Admin - as it is one of the accounts that belongs to my client. Could this be the reason it's happening? Some sort of miscommunication between Civi and Joomla possibly?

Any advice or direction would be appreciated. Even though this appears to be an isolated incident, unfortunately on my clients testing account, I would like to be able to solve it should it come up again. I'm happy to provide any additional information needed. Thank you.

This will avoid the issue of duplication in profile.
Go to profiles and choose the profile settings on the advanced settings set the value to update the matching contact instead of duplicating contact.

What to do upon duplicate match   Issue warning and do not save
                                                        Update the matching contact
                                                        Allow duplicate contact to be created
This will resolve the duplication account ,for more information on profile refer this link

Thank you for your information, I do appreciate it. My advanced settings were already set to Issue warning and do not save - although there were no warnings issued in this case. I changed it to update matching contact - that seems to make sense. That advanced tab is hidden pretty good on that page, never noticed it before, so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

As an update for anyone else reading the thread, the changing of the account from Registered to Super Admin didn't make a difference, I tested that theory on another account and wasn't able to replicate this behavior. I was able to fix the issue by deleting all contact records in CiviCRM for this user. None of the contact records for this user were matched up to the Joomla user ID for some reason, so I deleted them all, logged in as the user on the front end and the contact was then created correctly.

My feeling is this was just a glitch of some kind, the account may not have been setup or activated properly in the first place. This particular site was upgraded from 1.5 to 2.5 and has been migrated several times during my development process after taking over for another developer. I suppose if it was working properly in the first place, I wouldn't have been hired to take over. This is my first CiviCRM experience, and I think it's great, once you get your head around it. I have the same error, using Joomla 2.5.4 and civicrm 4.1.1. My settings for the profile are the same 'mareligne' recommended (Update the matching contact ). I still get duplicated records.
