Multiple Memberships Per Organization
May 20, 2012, 03:41:49 pm
Hello,
Hoping someone can help me figuring out a configuration scenario.  We are a Symphony Association just starting to use CiviCRM 3.4.6 on a Joomla CMS install to manage our data.  We have membership types associated with our organization within civicrm.  The basic gist of the problem is that if we try and add 2 different types of memberships to a contact - we receive an error message that we cant because this person already has a associated membership.

Scenario Background - We have various "memberships" based upon an amount of money you give us.  So, if you give us $250.00 - you are a "Patron" and you get 2 season tickets.  You can also just purchase a single season ticket.

Scenario - Somone writes us a check for $325.00 because they want to support us as a patron (getting 2 season tickets) and they want to purchase an individual season ticket.  What we thought we would do is go to add new membership, add a patron memberships for the $250.00 and then add a membership of Season Ticket holder for the $75.00.  The problem is when we do this, we get a civicrm message saying we cant do this because this contact already has a membership.  How can we add multiple memberships to an organization?

not sure i quite see the problem but in the last line you say 'add to an organisation'

when you create Membership Types there is nothing wrong with having several associated with a single organisation

can you confirm you have that set up okay. if so are you saying that when you edit an Individuals memberships by trying to 'add a new' membership you get the problem?

a screenshot may be worth a thousand words

Why are you using such an old version?

we get a civicrm message saying we cant do this because this contact already has a membership.

As Peter said, can you post a screenshot or at least copy and paste the precise error message?
