Best way to have a user select the organization they belong to?
May 20, 2012, 07:13:53 pm
First off, I'm new the forums and am looking forward to participating here.  CiviCRM has been great so far!

We have a new CiviCRM implementation within our Wordpress site.  I would like to have users be able to register (meaning enter in some basic information about themselves which creates an "Individual" record) and as a part of that, select the church that they belong to (out of a list of a hundred or so).  In thinking through the deployment options, it seems there are several ways to accomplish that (custom select field for all the churches, Groups or organizations).  I'm wondering if there are thoughts on best practices here?

I was thinking that a Profile might be the way to have a new constituent create an Individual record.  Ideally each Church would have it's own Organization and the user could select that as a part of sign up.

Is this possible or even the best approach?

Any advice is welcome.  If there are posts that already address this, please feel free to just point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

Erik

Might want to check using the contact reference field and limit it to the "church" group. That way you can expose all the churches as a contact reference

profiles are a good way to collect information
