Unable to autocomplete parent event for conference slot event
May 22, 2012, 03:08:02 pm
Joomla 2.5.4
CiviCRM 4.1

Created a two events, one paid (parent) one not (subevent). Go to subevent and select the conference slots tab. I enter the title of the parent event and the system acts as if it will autocomplete the field. The drop-down is essentially blank.

I recreated this in the Joomla Demo site for 4.1 - tried to create a sub event for the Rainforest demo event. Was not able to look up the parent event. Refer to attached screen shot.

I did a search through the forums and site and did not see any posts or issues, but did not find an existing issue mentioning autocomplete problems with parent events. Please advise if there is a known workaround or if I need to file an issue.

are you sure the dropdown is blank or simply that the theming is rendering the text etc so you can't see it - only asking as your image makes it look like there are 'white bands' which may each equate to an event - presumably you tried clicking on one to see what happened.

i mention this as with 'masquerade' in drupal i have seen same problem with some themes obscuring the autocomplete options so you end up having to 'guess'

If I try to click on any of the lines in that drop down, a bunch of code like text is filled into the field.

I also noticed when testing the add to cart feature on the parent event, the error mentioned drupal, not joomla.

the add-to-cart functionality was developed and deployed on a drupal site. hence i suspect it was also tested on drupal only

this is contributed functionality. Would be great if you can dig into the issue and figure out what needs to be tweaked to get this to work under joomla and other CMS'es. that would definitely help a lot

Unfortunately, I'm not technically adept enough to make those determinations (not a developer, just a better than average admin user). I've managed to figure out some things, but not with core.

The feature was suggested to me as a way to create a complex event registration process (as mentioned here http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,24534.msg103265.html#msg103265). The issue tracker (http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-8705) says the next code commit will be for 4.2.

4.2 will be in alpha soon. Maybe at that point, u can check and see if it works in joomla. I've asked the contributor to check this forum topic and see if he can shed some light on it

Thanks Lobo - point me to a link to test, or I can create a sandbox on my servers to test.  Happy to work with anyone on this issue as it would save me a lot of grief and let me keep this clients' event registration within Civi.

Best,
b.

Hi, penguintrax!
Thanks for trying out this feature, I hope I can get you a fix within the month.  Can you file a bug for me?  I'll try installing Civi on my own Joomla, the problem must be related to how I did the autocomplete jquery, it can't be too complicated.

Thanks Adam - here's the issue:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-10265

Sorry if it's somewhat incomplete - the template isn't loading in Issue Tracker and some features aren't accessible.

From what I can tell, the issue is that the URL used to make the ajax call is incorrect. It contains an & where it should just be an & symbol.

So, this:
.../administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/ajax/event&s=[term]&limit=10&timestamp=[timestamp]

Should be this:
.../administrator/?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/ajax/event&s=[term]&limit=10&timestamp=[timestamp]
