I have a civicrm with several thousand contacts on it. When I created the database I made an error and had to delete a lot of contacts and reupload them.

Now when I send an eemail and ask them to register for an event the registration is adding itself to the deleted contact not to the "live contact". In this case the deleted contact and the live contact both have the same email, first name, surname

I stillhave the registration data thankjfully but has anyone got any ideas why this is happening?

Did you 'delete permanently'? It sounds like those Contact Records are still in the database. Or did you only delete the Participant record.

If you do a QuickSearch (top left white box) for a surname - do you get only one result or two?

In Adv Search there is a 'search in trash' checkbox in the top section. Try using that to see if your unwanted contacts are still in Trash and 'delete permanently'.
