Subgroups created by a "sub-admin"
February 23, 2008, 07:13:28 pm
Using ACLs in 1.9,  it's possible to delegate a group of contacts to a "sub-admin".  1.9 lists the contacts just fine.

But on some sites, these groups are pretty large, and the sub-admins want to create their own groups to manage them.  If the sub-admin's role is assigned "edit groups", it's possible for the sub-admin to create a new group.  But the sub-admin cannot actually see the groups she creates: apparently, she does not have view access to the groups she creates themselves.  Going to Manage Groups, for example, will show that "this site has no groups".  And trying to add contacts to a group using the popup from the contact list for a group the sub-admin has access to will not show the new group in the list of groups that contacts can be added to.

How do I get around this?  What additional permission is needed so that when someone creates a group, he/she can actually view/edit or otherwise use a group?

This is a known issue and we hope to have a workaround in 2.x when we focus on improving / extending / redesigning acl support

One possible workaround for now is to auto add an acl for the creator whenever a group is created

Thought that might be the case.  OK, easy enough to code that in 1.9.

Thanks,
Rob
