Bug with regards to replacing existing address with shared address
June 06, 2012, 07:56:05 am
I have confirmed that in CiviCRM 4.1.2 when switching the existing address from a entered address to a shared address will result in empty fields from shared address being merged with other address.

So that any address field that has a value on the old address will continue to appear even if the shared address is null.  I have screen shots of before and after to help report bug.

Example

Existing Address "Additional Address 1" has a value of say "3rd Floor" and the shared with address has nothing in this field it will result in the shared with address value PLUS "3rd Floor"

If you delete the current address first and then choose share with option this does not happen but you have to select address type as well as that is not selected by default.

Very minor bug IMHO but wanted to report it nonetheless.

Followup to this.  You must save and then reedit the contact record else another bug comes into play with deleting and creating at the same time.  This results in an endless loop when trying to save or kicks out the shared address and makes you reenter information.

Bug is not browser specific, Chrome, Firefox and IE9 result in same issue.

You can bypass this issue by simply clicking the delete address on the existing address and adding additional address button and use shared with there and assign type and check primary box.  This does work without having to save and go back into edit mode after saving the address deletion.

Adrian - assuming this recreates on demo, you should file a bug report on issue tracker. If possible also please investigate the cause and include a suggested patch.

@Dave,  sorry for the delay was working out another issue.  Just tested this issue on demo site and confirmed it is a bug.  Filing issue tracker report for this.  You can see the results of my test on the demo site by looking at contact record "somebody clever" and where I added "compasspoint" address and how it maintained the additional address lines from the original address.  I would suggest making a simple change that deletes any prior address info before updating to shared address space upon hitting save button.  It  does work correctly when typing address info in and deleting info in existing address fields when not using the "share with" selection.

I posted the issue as a bug and detailed what I thought might be a very easy fix to this issue. It is completely isolated to the routine that runs when using "share with" feature. Manual entry will not result in bug symptoms.
