Are there any plans for embedding a report generator - something like Reportico and Pentaho - into CiviCRM?

no deep integration planned (whatever that might mean)

but pentaho is primarily a java stack and a few consultants have deployed reports via pentaho/jasper and just add the links via civicrm menu

Parvez at http://www.vedaconsulting.co.uk/ implemented this for us.
