Trouble setting up bounces
June 08, 2012, 10:55:22 pm
I have my system sending out bulk emails.  I am now trying to get bounce processing set up.  I have followed the docs as best I understand them.  But mails to bad addresses are not ending up in the bounce account, and when I look at the email headers of a valid message there is no mention of a bounce account.  Using Drupal 7 and CiviCRM 4.1.1.

The settings I have in my bounce account that seem relevant:

Server: imap.googlemail.com
username: bounces@example.com
password is correct
Localpart: bounce+
Email Domain: example.com
Return path: (empty)
ProtocolL IMAP
source: (empty)
Use SSL: checked
Used for?: Bounce Processing.

The action.optOut mailto is: bounces+o.22.10.e1e53f904a2c5afc@example.com.  I have verified that mails sent to this account actually end up there, so the + format does work with my google apps mail account.

I am using elasticemail.com for smtp.  I am not using their option to use their own bounce processing.

Anything wrong?  Is there anywhere I have to turn on bounce processing?

Hi,

I'm assuming you have checked if they aren't in the spam folder?

Can you see the log of your smtp provider? That's probably where you will see more, eg if they accept you to set the smtp envelope.

It appears that elasticemail.com is trapping the bounce.  I have requested an exception to this policy, they say we can ask to override "a" bounce address.  Not sure they will allow bounce headers to pass through unaltered.

This was resolved by elasticmail, they changed a setting on my account that allows the CiviCRM bounces setting to pass through.
